Your session is confidential.

 

Client privacy is necessary for effective and ethical counseling. Confidentiality is part of the California Marriage and Family Therapist (CAMFT) code of ethics, but laws exist to protect client privacy, too.

In the following clearly defined situations, however, I am required by law to report session content. These circumstances are strictly defined and include:

• Indications of child or elder abuse 

• Threat of harm to self

• Threat of harm to others
